Hi Reader!

I love a good local Facebook group.

Need a restaurant recommendation? Someone has one. Looking for a dance studio? You'll probably have 15 suggestions before you finish your coffee.

But I've been thinking about something lately.

Local Facebook groups have become pretty powerful marketing tools for small businesses. And in some communities, businesses are paying good money to get their names in front of those members.

Which sounds like a great opportunity, right?

Here's what I've been wondering. When a business pays to advertise in a Facebook group, how do they know they're actually getting their money's worth? And how much control should a group administrator have over where that business can advertise?

I did some digging into community trust, advertising transparency, and what small businesses should consider before investing in Facebook group sponsorships.

And there are a few things I think every business owner should know before handing over their marketing budget.

And to be clear, I'm not against Facebook groups. I actually think they can be fantastic for local businesses. But I am a big believer in knowing exactly what you're paying for.

And this conversation is worth having.
